Do robot mowers still need a boundary wire?

Most current premium robot mowers are wire-free and map the lawn using RTK satellite positioning, LiDAR, or cameras. Boundary-wire models still exist and cost less, but the perimeter has to be trenched. Wire-free options are best if you don't want a buried wire.

Will a robot mower work under heavy trees?

Not all of them. Mowers that rely only on RTK satellite signal lose accuracy under dense canopy. LiDAR-based mowers navigate with lasers and work in shade and shadow, making them the better choice for wooded lots.

Can robot mowers handle steep hills?

All-wheel-drive robot mowers can. Premium AWD models are rated for grades up to about 80 percent, roughly 38 degrees, which covers terraces, banks, and hillside lots. Standard two-wheel machines handle much gentler slopes.

Are robot mowers safe around children and pets?

Modern machines have obstacle detection and lift and tilt sensors that stop the blades, but they are not a substitute for supervision. Keep children and pets clear while the mower runs and never reach under a running unit.

How much electricity does a robot mower use?

Very little. Robot mowers are battery powered and dock to recharge themselves, costing a small fraction of a gas mower or a lawn service, with no fuel, oil, or emissions.
